Matt Sherwin
Brooklyn's own Matt Sherwin has long distinguished himself with his unique brand of smart, ironic, and literate acoustic pop. Recalling the tight and witty songcraft of artists such as Elvis Costello, Paul Westerberg and Randy Newman, Matt draws on his influences to create a style uniquely modern, unmistakably his own. His work has been called "poignant and humorous" (Billboard) as well as "remarkable...fresh and intriguing" (Songwriters Resource Network), and has been cited in publications such as CMJ Weekly and The New Yorker.
Matt’s inspired writing and command of a wide range of musical styles is fully evident on his acclaimed debut CD, 'Cold Reader.' Just give a listen to the one-two punch of the distorted sax riff on 'Superman, Why?' and the aching country-inflected ballad ‘If I Walked You Home.' For further listening, check out preview selections from Matt's upcoming album '12:30 Songs': the irresistably sweet, swinging 'All I Wanna Do' and the epic alt-country ballad 'This Property is Condemned." One listen and you’ll understand why Matt is being considered one of the most versatile and original young talents on the scene today.
Of course, mastering songs in a studio is one thing - translating them to the stage is another. Again, Matt Sherwin delivers. A seasoned performer, Matt plays both solo and with an ace backing band featuring veteran players from the NYC scene.
